Installing a CCTV camera to a DVR

In order to keep one’s home `or office safe, people usually opt for alarm based systems. While this does help deter intruders, it is not the best option when it comes to protection. Including a CCTV camera system would provide that ultimate protection that you need, especially when it is capable of recording the captured images. This can be done by connecting the CCTV to a DVR box. You can also check out the process of installing a wired CCTV Camera incase you havent installed the cameras as yet.

The CCTV as well as the DVR need to be connected to a power source in order to work. Adding a monitor to keep track of real-time viewing can also be done. This process is not complicated if the instructions are properly followed.

Things Needed for the Job

In order to connect the system properly, some of the essentials include a CCTV camera, computer monitor, DVR along with the right cables. In addition to these, a BNC plug and play cable is needed, along with a BNC output cable and a camera power supply plug. Once these supplies are obtained, setting up the system can be on its way.

To connect the CCTV to the DVR, the BNC plug and play cable is needed. The cable has two connection points at each end. For the CCTV camera and DVR to be connected, use the male BNC and attach it to the female BNC on the back of the DVR. The other end of the BNC cable can be used to connect the BNC connector to the camera.  Once both the connections lock in place, the connection is done.

When choosing the BNC cable, users need to check how far the camera is going to be from the DVR as this will give an idea of the amount of BNC cable needed for the job. Usually a 100 foot plug and play cable is sufficient for most installation setups. However, if it ends up being short, two BNC cables can be joined to increase the length of the cable so that it reaches a greater distance. However, connecting too many cables together to get a length of more than 250 feet is not a good idea as this can reduce the quality of the video footage.

Finding a Power Source

The BNC connectors need to be attached to a power source. This can be done by attaching the power side of the cable to the camera’s power input. For the DVR, attach the power side of the cable to the power supply plug of the camera and connect it to a power outlet. However, for real time viewing, a computer monitor would have to be connected.

For a TV monitor, a standard BNC cable can be attached to the output connector on the back of the DVR. Attach the other end to the RCA video input connector at the back of the TV. For a computer monitor, a VGA converter is necessary. THE VGA is attached to the converter, which has two connectors at the other end. The power source connector should be pushed into a power supply plug and the other end should go into the output connector on the back of the DVR to create a connection.

All the necessary items, from CCTV cameras to BNC cables, can be obtained on eBay. Creating a safe environment is not hard if you know what you are doing.
